Bible Verses for the Week A great reminder in difficult times. We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own free will, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints -- and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. 2 Cor. 8:1-5 [Ed. comment - Time, Prayer & Financial support of OAFC and all Christian ministries can only come when "the gave themselves first to the Lord". A Personal Witness on Hope by Candice A few weeks later, at the church I attend when I’m at school, my tattoo [of the word "Hope"] was our topic of discussion. Well, not quite. We were doing an in-depth study of 1 John chapter 3. On this particular Sunday, we were focusing on verse 3. This verse says “And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” I started thinking more about hope, and what it means. See, hope isn’t a gamble. It isn’t a “maybe this will happen”. Hope is an anchor. Hope is a promise. Since my tattoo is behind my ear, I can’t really see it. It doesn’t matter though. Even though I can’t see it, even if I forget that I have it, it’s still there. Hope is the same way. God is the same way. See, the way I was born, in sin, leaves me with no hope whatsoever. I’m lost and hopeless, but God gives hope. God sent his only Son to die in my place and forgive my sins. That forgiveness isn’t a gamble. That forgiveness is an anchor. |
